Bratcher (Bracher), William, late of County, labourer, Hog Stealing

Warrant, 8 June 1798.  Issued by Thomas Edwards, SGC, and served by Alexander Waddle; Order: Take body of William Bracher; Comments: Ruben Haraisson found a sow, his property, in possession of William Bracher and believes Bracher took his sow.  [Note on document: Summons Ruben Harrison and Isaac Dunnagin.]

Recognizance, 17 June 1798.  Issued by Thomas Edwards, SGC, to Ruben (x) Harrison, 20£; Security: Isaac Dunnagin, 10£; Condition: Ruben Harrison will appear in Court on 5 July next, as State Witness. 

Bail Bond, 17 June 1798. Issued by Thomas Edwards, SGC, to William Bracher, 20£; Security: Isam (x) Clayton, 10£; Condition: Bracher will appear in Court on 5 July next. [Note on doucment: Sarah (x) Bracher for Will. Bracher.]

Confession, 17 June 1798. Confession made to Thomas Edwards, SGC, by William Bracher:  He took a sow, he does not know whether was his or not only George Harrison said it was his.  He went out and caught her, took her home and put her in a pen.  He advised with George Harrison after they caught the sow to know whether it was his sow or not and he said he thought it was Bracher's sow or Bracher says he would have turned out the sow in the woods.

Sworn Statement, 17 June 1798.  Statement made to Thomas Edwards, SGC, by Ruben (x) Harrison:  Some time about middle of last March he went to said Bracher's and found his sow in a pen at Bracher's.

Sworn Statement, 18 June 1798.  Statement made to Thomas Edwards, SGC, by Isaac Dunnagin:  Ruben Harrison came to Dunnagin and they went together to Bracher's and saw a sow in Bracher's pen that he thought to be Ruben Harrison's sow, etc.

Recognizance, 20 June 1798.  Issued by Thomas Edwards, SGC, to Isaac Dunngan, 20£; Security: Ruben (x) Harrison; Condition: Dunngan will appear in Court on 5 July next as State Witness.

Indictment, 5 July 1798, True Bill.  Charge: On 25th March 1798, William Bratcher stole 1 red sow with a crop and "whole" in the right ear and a crop of the left ear, valued at 5 shillings and belonging to Reubin Harrison; County Attorney: Taliaferro;  Sworn in Open Court and sent to Grand Jury by Jesse Carter CGC; Witnesses [?] Harrison, Isaac Dunnigan; Jury: William Thruston foreman, George Allin, Russal Cannon, John Robison, Thomas Benson, Lemuel James Alston, Benjamin Griffith, John Bates, Gorsham Kelley, Thomas Jinkins, David Barton, Thomas Hooper, Isaac Green; Verdict: I appear and plead not guilty and traverse till next Court. W. Thompson, Deft. Atty.  Not guilty.  William Armstrong, foreman.
