The pension application of David Guttry of
Bedford County, Virginia refers to a William Bracher. Unfortunately, the original
documents were mutilated somewhere in the past. A strip 1/2" to 1" was
removed from both sides of the pages and many words were lost. I have extracted and
presented the pertinent information below. |
South Carolina
Anderson District
In March 1833, David Guttry testified before the Court of
General Sessions and General Pleas. He was 69 years old at the time of his deposition. In
1781, at the age of 16 years, he voluntarily entered into the Virginia Line. He joined as
a substitute for a neighbor, William Bracher, who had been drafted. Since Bracher was poor
and had a large family, he was unwilling to enter into service. Guttry was born and raised
in the portion of Bedford County that eventually became Franklin County. |
