Williamsburgh District Samuel Bratcher personally appeared before me, Langdon Cheves on of the Associate Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the said state who being duly sworn made oath that about the year 1776 he enlisted under Capt. James Williams of the 4th North Carolina Battalion 4th Regiment commanded by Col. Paxton that he was marched into the state of Pennsylvania & served about eighteen months in the army until he was regularly discharged by the then Adjutant General Timothy Pickering (which discharge is herewith presented) dated the 27th Nov. 1777 – That he is a Citizen of the District & State aforesaid & that he is about Eight three years of age that he is poor and infirm & that he stands greatly in need of assistance from his Country having to support himself by his labor.

Williamsburgh District I Langdon Cheves one of the associate Judges of the said State do hereby Certify that Samuel Bratcher named in the annexed affidavit appeared before me & upon the examination of the said Samuel Bratcher and the evidences ______ by him, I am perfectly convinced of the truth of the facts stated in the annexed affidavits. 

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this the 20th day of October Anno Domini 1818

Williamsburgh District Personally appeared before me Elam J. Mills Clerk of the Court of Pleas for said district Col. William Paxton who being duly sworn saith that he has long been acquainted with Samuel Bradshaw & believes him to be now very aged and infirm and to have supported a reputable character and known as an industrious citizen, and from his great age & infirmity stands greatly in need of the support awarded soldiers of the revolutionary war by an act of Congress of the 18 of March 1818.
