HOME: Open plains and scrub forests of Africa

LIFE SPAN: 15 years in the wild, 15 to 30 years in the zoo

LOOKS: Head and body are 8 feet long. The male lion can weigh as much as 500 pounds, about the same weight as 3 grown men. The females are smaller. Lions have short hair, only the male has a mane. The hind legs are strong for pouncing as much as 12 feet in a single bound. That will be 24 feet in two bounds! hehehehehehehehehe Lions have good hearing and eyesight. The roar of a lion can be heard over 5 miles. You can click on the lions to hear them roar! (what a big mouth hehehehe)

FOODS: Lions eat any kind of meat. Their favorites are zebras, wildebeest, impala and antelope (whew glad they don't like me!) Sometimes they steal food from hyenas. Lions eat only every 4 to 5 days. They can eat as much as 30 to 40 pounds of meat and skin in large gulps. They do not chew their food like we do.

All aboard for the next stop!
