  
Ostrich
HOME: Desert and bush regions of Africa and Australia.
LIFE SPAN: 15 or more years.
LOOKS: The ostrich is the largest living bird. It grows taller
than a door and can weigh as much as 300 pounds. Its head is
small, with large eyes and long black eyelashes. The neck is long
and slender. Its feathers are limited to the body. The males are
black with white plumes on the tail and wings, the females are
brown. Each foot has two toes with claws. Ostriches cannot fly.
FOOD: Shoots, leaves, seeds, small animals, and succulent plants.
HABITS: Ostriches can run 40 miles an hour and can leap over 10
feet!! WOW.
