I shot good, "Old Bob". He was the best dog I ever owned. I
had him eight years and would have kept him until he died of
old age. But he bit me and I killed him. Many more miles
have we traveled together and many is the birds that we
killed. How many times have we ate our lunch in the lonely
woods together. I never expect to have a better or a truer
friend than Old Bob was to me. But in an evil moment he bit
me in the thumb. And in a fit of passion I sent a bullet from my
trusty gun in a moment it all was over and I am sorry of the
deed. But his marks I will carry to the grave.
