hal-chor-ed.jpg (8127 bytes)HALLELUJAH CHORUS (Hunt, 1980) OGB+/OGB Sal-Leo-Five X Leo's Lort-Chen. Yellow-white standards; dark yellow falls; triangular brown spot; near-black beard tipped golden yellow. An excellent parent for yellows of all patterns, as well as yellowish pinks and yellows with brown markings. Transmits its strong growth habits to its offspring. A fully fertile halfbred from the Triploid Route, this was an OGB+ under the old quantum system but qualifies as an OGB today. Would have been "Hallelujah", if the name had been available, a commentary on the first-sight reaction to its striking color and pattern. It was Kay Nelson's suggestion to add the "Chorus" – most apt, I think.

HAYNEI Onco Species. Overall bluish purple, falls densely dotted and veined. Blackish-purple signal. Listed in Pleasure Iris Garden's 1999 catalog. See Onco Species poster for further information..

HEART STEALER (Peterson, 1976) OGB Merriglow X (Card of Thanks x Tuesday Song). Pink self with faint lavender overlay. Deep brown beard with narrow, deep lavender signal at tip. Very good parent for a wide range of pinkish tones when used with other halfbreds. Lets impressive signals come through when paired with the right arils. Transmits excellent growth habits to its offspring. For many years I kept a "podder" clump of it and still recommend it highly for beginners.

HEAVENLY SUNLIGHT (Hunt-McAllister, 1990) OGB Jean Ralls X Hallelujah Chorus. Flesh-toned standards, greyed-yellow falls. Signal area is veined burgundy on cream. A fully fertile halfbred that has produced some nice things for me, but I've given away most of its seeds. "Heavenly Sunlight" had been on my list of names-in-search-of-iris for some time and when this came up for naming it seemed like a good fit.

herb.jpg (10314 bytes)HERB McKUSICK (McAllister, 1993) OGB Bangledesh X Martha Mia. Iridescent violet standards; deep plum-purple falls. Large signal area marked by separation of pigments into burgundy veins on white ground. A fully fertile halfbred that has produced many seeds for me over the past few years, but I gave most of them away because I was concentrating on other lines. I do expect it to be a valuable parent for all shades from "pinkish" through dark bluish-purple. I'd wanted to name one of my iris for Herb, the long-time heart of the Aril Society, my friend, and mentor, but it wasn't until this very special offspring of two C.G. White award winners came along that I felt I had one good enough to bear his name.

ht.jpg (8521 bytes)HIDDEN TALENTS (McAllister, 1990) OGB Esther the Queen X Sheik. Standards very pale lavender; buff falls; burgundy signal and beard. Pastel "pinkish" itself, this carries enough hidden traits to make it an excellent parent for a wide variety of colors and patterns. It has thrown pinkish offspring that range from pastel to almost garish, as well as lavender, greenish, and smoky tones. The flower isn't quite as striking, but this is an even better parent than its sib, Expert Advice. I introduced it for its breeding potential, and named it accordingly.

HONEY DOVE (Flanagan, 1976). Golden-tan self with large reddish signal area around a near-black beard. From (Esther, the Queen x (62044-2 x Dove Song) X Bethlehem Star x sib to Desert Dove. One of my favorite breeders from Flanagan's lines, especially for prominent signal spot and dark beards.

HOT ICE (Rich, 1994). OGB Fuchsia pink, small mahogany chevron signal; orange beards tipped pink; slight fragrance. Incredibly complex pedigree, including pinks and I. susiana

HUMOHR (Hager, 1981). OGB- (Turkish Tracery x Welcome Reward) X Socialite. Violet, irregularly splashed white, with a pale blue beard. I believe that this would be an excellent candidate for crossing with tetraploid arils, as I've obtained excellent seedlings from such crosses involving similar 1/4-breds.
