Search engines are not the only way to promote your web pages. Because the web is so enormous, a listing with a search engine may not reach your target audience. See the article "Whose Web Is It Anyway?" about the importance of alternatives to search engines. Web sites about a common theme may link into a web ring. The sites refer visitors to each member's site. This helps you reach people who are interested in your topic. In addition, since links to your site weigh in the evaluation of some search engines, it may help your listing in that search engine. If you do not want to join a web ring, at least consider finding another web site that might like to link to yours. Don't forget that people do not spend all their time on the web. (Amazing but true!) People do read newspapers and magazines. They listen to radio and other media. It may be worthwhile to send out a press release to particular magazines or local press about your web site. See the tutorial at Wedpedia about how to write a press release. Since you have done such a good job publishing an excellent web site, why be shy? Other comment notes for this unit: |
