Abstract

High growths of population and development activities have caused environmental and traffic disturbances. The modern forester has the responsible to manage the resource in a more sustainable way. The objective of this study was to assess the usefulness of LANDSAT TM image of 126/58 (path/row) in Computer Compatible Tape (CCT), taken on June 14, 1996, with less than 5 percent cloud free was needed for image processing and analysis using the PCI Software System (version 6.2.2). Results indicate that band combination of 4-5-3 (FCC) formed the best combination for the purpose of the study since it can clearly differentiate the vegetation. A supervised classification of the image results in 12 classes of green cover classification. The overall accuracy obtained from this study was 70%. A total of four classes were allocated as potential sites for forest landscaping purpose map. Urban forestry planning using satellite remote sensing has the potential in Putra Jaya since the area is still surrounded by green cover.
