This study was conducted to determine factors associated with frequency and rate of use on three residential playgrounds in Subang Jaya by the local residents. The three parks were in the same neighborhood but of varying size and conditions. Factors such as size and positioning of the parks in relation to the residence, facilities, availability and condition of trees and lawn, and accessibility were recorded. Data on users such as age, class, sex, type of participation and pattern of use were also collected. The results indicate that while size of the park was important particularly in providing adequate space for activities and facilities, location and accessibility contributed to popularity of choice. A centrally located park with minimal hindrance such as big drains, fence or separation by busy roads find to attract more visitors. People tend to crowd the parks between five to seven o'clock in the afternoon as the earlier period was generally hotter and most of the residents were still at work. Teenage male visitors comprised the majority of park users. Older residents used the park for strolling and relaxation while many women frequent the place for baby-sitting. The result of the study indicates that when planning a park, factors such as location, size, and facilities must be taken into consideration with maintenance program to be a priority to ensure that the park should not only be clean and functional, but safe as well especially for children.
