Ferns and their allies in Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve are still unknown. A study was conducted in Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, Puchong with the objectives of providing a preliminary checklist of ferns and their allies that are present and keys to their identification of fern taxa and their description. Specimens of ferns and their allies were collected over a period of three months from August to October 1998 through "walk in the wood" method covering an area of approximately 600 ha. Fifteen species of ferns and their allies from 8 genera and 5 families were identified. Results show that the most common species collected were from the family Gleicheniaceae. Descriptions of taxa were made and distinguishing characters highlighted. Keys to families, genera, and species were generated through the use of diagnostic characters.
