Punches
Scrapbooking
- Keep track of what scissors, rulers and corner punches you have by cutting pieces of cardstock into approximately 3 inch squares. Cut the corners and edges using a separate card for each of the scissors and punches.
By holding them up against each other you can see how they will look in combination with each other. Remember to include your corner rounder as an example as well. Write the name and manufacturer of each punch and scissors on the back of each card.
When you are going shopping, take these sample cards along and you will know exactly what you have at home.
By keeping a ziplock bag of corner samples that can be used in a mix-and-match fashion, you are unlikely to forget about the possibilities of your corner scissors and punches.
What to do with all those little scraps of acid-free paper? When they are too tiny to do much with, I punch them with a heart punch. You'll end up with a selection of hearts in all different colors. You can glue them on your pages or do what I do. When I am writing to a family member who is away or giving a birthday card or Valentine card, I drop in a good-sized pinch of these little hearts to say "I love you."
- Punch shapes like hearts or stars out of an actual picture.
Mount the picture on colored paper and let the cut out show through.
Use the punch outs to accent the page.
- Punch your scrapbook page with punch shapes to give a lighter, airier
effect.
- Keep "punch outs" in embroidery floss box. Put a piece of felt as large as the lid on top to keep them in their separate compartments.
- Place strip of photo tape on strip of paper you're punching from
especially when using the smaller punches. Instant adhesive backing.
A lot easier to handle than glue.
- Use punches, ie heart, stars, flowers, to cut out shapes from patterned
paper to make clusters of shapes to scatter around a page -- polka dot
hearts, pastel stars.
- Sometimes wax paper can get "hung up" in a new punch so a way to make your punches punch with ease is to soap a piece of cardstock. Punch a half dozen times and your punch will be smoother.
- Put photo tape or double sided tape across acid-free paper, then use punches to make instant stickers.
- Decorate a party page with "confetti" from two coordinating printed papers made using a regular office hole punch.
