QUOKKA
QUOKKA??? Let me guess you are asking yourself the same question I asked; "What the heck is that?" Well the quokka is a small marsupial that looks somewhat like a rat and somewhat like a small kangaroo. It is one of the most conspicuous animals in WA and one of the more popular attractions to Rottnest Island. Willem de Vlamingh described this animal as "a kind of rat as big as a common cat." They are very prevalent on many of the islands off the coast of WA and are very friendly but timid. A very good friend and I went in search of them on our visit to Rottnest and we found them. I managed to get close enough to have one lick my finger. I also got a lot of good photos of them too.
