After being introduced to the Internet five years ago, a friend and I were

discussing some ideas, applications for web sites. At the time we just mentioned on passing the possibility of a virtual library of the Fleurieu. I wasn't quite sure what this meant but it sounded good to me. When I found out, it still sounded good but a task far beyond my ability or available time, way back then. .

GEES ! THINGS ARE VERY DIFFERENT TODAY

To continue ... Many months later, after much net surfing, study, practice and burning the midnight oil, we decided to put the first brick in the wall and called the page Strathalbyn On Web

That page was designed around the concept of information for the regional community and was expanded and added to, to include the surrounding districts of Ashbourne, Langhorne Creek and Milang.

Some time later ... We realised if we ware to continue this process it would have to appeal to a wider audience. Potential visitors to the region browsing the site, would give it some possibility of being sponsored which obviously would be required if such an undertaking as FOW were to continue. This labour of love was and is demanding more and more time (full-time). Clearly as these pages began to grow like topsy, they would need a much more universal name. It wasn't hard to come up with the title . . .

. J-Enterprises was formed to support this project and provide training and education. J-Enterprises became Fleurieu Communications on 6 Jan 1999 complete with its own domain name - fleurcom.com.au

Today, we have not lost site of the original idea of a virtual library as a resource for the local communities and we are including even more community news and information.

As technology, our ability, experience and staff grows we are making this site even more interactive than it has become. Our design philosophy is KISS (keep it simple silly). FOW is about resources and above all communication and not the use of flashy technology for the sake of it. As we are sure you have noted on many professional and expensive sites. Fast loading and easy navigation is a must.

This site is designed as a resource for locals and visitors alike.

Virtual visitors to the region are able to plan their trip ahead and local businesses advertise their excellent services and take bookings from the other side of the world, well before departure dates. Local businesses that trade in niche markets, for example wineries, are displaying their wares to the global community via FOW and taking wholesale and retail orders on-line.
