ALBUS DUMBLEDORE
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is, and has been for many years, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Because of his knowledge of the wizarding world, magic, and Voldemort, as well as his great power, he has always been in the middle of confrontations in the wizarding world. Also because of the reasons aforementioned, he has always had a special relationship with Harry Potter, not only because he befriended Harry’s parents, but also because Harry is, as we all know, the Boy Who Lived. In book five we also learn about the prophecy, and thus we are explained the reason that Dumbledore keeps a keen eye over Harry.
As mentioned above, Dumbledore is a wizard of great power. He is considered by many to be the greatest sorcerer of the age, and the greatest Headmaster of Hogwarts. He is also considered by many to be mad, as he is very eccentric at times.
Dumbledore is the only wizard that Voldemort fears, and he is also one of the only things standing in Voldemort’s way of taking over. Dumbledore, being a Transfiguration teacher prior to his Headmastership during Tom Riddle’s school years, had always suspected Tom of evil things. He probably knew that it was Tom who was opening the Chamber of Secrets. His teacher position also showed him that Tom was, in his opinion, the most brilliant student to ever come through Hogwarts.
Dumbledore is a powerful but humble man. He is in a high position in society, but he does not allow that to cloud his judgment or his thoughts, unlike other characters like Cornelius Fudge or Lucius Malfoy. Dumbledore is the best kind of authority figure; one who does not think himself too high and mighty to consort with the likes of house elves and other species that many in the wizarding world consider lowly. Hagrid, a half-giant, is one of Dumbledore’s closest friends and confidants.
He is also very sad character, as the knowledge that he holds is a tremendous burden. However, he’s also a very funny character, giving the Twins a run for their money in the joke department.
In the saga of Harry Potter, Dumbledore is the Yoda to Harry’s Luke Skywalker. A very important character in the first five volumes of the Boy Who Lived, he is sure to play crucial roles in the next two volumes, as the fate of the Wizarding world may very well fall into his hands.
