SHIP possibilities
OK, ok, ok. Here I am. The one and only Tessa.Charity dragged me into this. She said I had to do at least a section on the site, so I agreed to do what we have dubbed "PosRel," or Possible Relationships. A.K.A. Beyond the Books' own little SHIP harbor. Here's Tessa's little introduction to the fandom world, and BtB's own little corner of it.
Now, if you're not into fandom much, then you might be asking what a "SHIP" is. I could tell you to go read the FAQs, but that would be mean. Instead, I'll tell you! A SHIP is a relationship. It's a pairing of two (or more) characters. Slang like "What SHIPs do you sail on?" and "I SHIP for..." has spawned from the new word.
After figuring out what a SHIP is, you may wonder how they're represented. Letters or names separated by a "slash" are considered "SHIPs." These abbreviations look like this: Harry/Hermione, Harry Potter/Hermione Granger, HP/HG, or even H/Hr (Hr for Hermione, because if you're SHIPPING Draco/Hermione and NOT Draco/Harry, it might get a tad confusing.) After you've learned all this, I probably need to explain the use of the term "slash." Now, if you are commonly in fandom, you probably know this means any same- sex pairings among characters. It is also the word used to describe the line in the formentioned SHIPs, but the two are unrelated. Because Tessa is a slasher (someone who enjoys reading same-sex pairing fanfiction) Beyond the Books is a slash-friendly website. This means that slash content will be present occasionally. All of it will be well marked, and advertised as slash. If you don't like slash, the idea of slash, or anything to do with same-sex pairings, then don't read it. That's all I can tell you. Now, on a much lighter note, I'll get to introducing my SHIP stuff. The stuff I wrote goes like this.
At the top, I have the name of the SHIP in question in bold. Below that, you'll find my "SHIP rating system," which goes like this.
1/5 Stars - SHIP has Sunk
2/5 Stars - S.O.S.!
3/5 Stars - Rough Waters
4/5 Stars - Storm's Brewing
5/5 Stars - Smooth Sailing
You'll have one of these ratings for each of three categories. Possibility in Canon (JKR's books), Possibility in Fanon (Fandom), and Tessa's liking. Below that, you'll have an average. *wipes forehead* Phew.
Now, below THAT, you'll find my one-liner about said pairing. I'll try and be completely honest, and I'll let you know that the one-liner will gererally have to do with MY feelings about the pairings, not the possibility in canon or anything else.
And, below that, you get the real stuff. I'll discuss the pairing in canon, in fanon, and why I like it or dislike it. I'm sure a lot of you don't care, but I have to put in my two cents if I'm going to run this section of the site. So now..........onward! You'll find all of my pairings below, with links to their own pages. You'll also find them separated by "Het" (heterosexual) "Slash" (homosexual) "S/T" (Student/Teacher) and "P/C" (Person/Creature).
