The Creation of Beyond The Books Wow. This is such a great story to tell. So one day back in November of 2002, Tessa and I were sitting in math class. (Now one thing that you need to understand is that Tessa and I are quite good at math, and this teacher was quite bad at teaching it.) Well, it just so happened that the latest Harry Potter movie had just come out the previous weekend. Us Potterheads were bound to talk about it. (Chamber of Secrets... *sigh*) And that's when it happened...Tess passed me the first note. Naturally it was along the lines of something silly. You know, "oh blah, blah, and blah all looove so and so." But it was good conversation that first day; kept us busy from going mad from Mr. Warren's teaching. Eventually, we just kept passing the notes. Other people joined in on them too; Zoe, Damian, Gwen. It was a noble beginning. One where we all came together over one common ground. To this day, we still hold roots with each other with those fine notes. I still have them all, too. Each and every original note. Cool, huh? I can also tell you that the notes didn't just stay in the mathroom. It eventually ended up that we would have 5 notes going on simultaneously in other rooms, and people would bring them to their next classes and continue on in them with a whole new group of Council members. In Mr. Warren's room, things got kind of crazy, too. We would ball up notes and throw them across the room, or dart around along the walls all mission impossible style. You may think I'm kidding, but I'm not! Tessa can vouch for me. One night, Tessa and I had a sleepover at her place. That was the night when the bare bone beginnings of BtB were put up. We made the whole site in one night, and did all our coding by hand, and made our images on paint. It's funny to look back on it now. Tessa has her Jasc Paint Shop, and I've got my Dreamweaver. And to think we would sit and do straight coding at 1 in the morning is just mind blowing. So now we have Beyond the Books, our ever growing little site that is going big places. We have brought in new faces, new ideas, and are always willing to add more. Highschool makes it a little rough for us at times. You know, the homework, the extra curriculars, and the drama. But Tess and I will remain ever loyal to the fandom of Harry Potter, and so will Beyond the Books. *...* |
