LUNA LOVEGOOD
Luna Lovegood is an extremely eccentric Ravenclaw girl who is a year younger than Harry. She seems to be a companion of Ginny Weasley, as they are often found in each other’s company. Luna is a member of Dumbledore’s Army, and appears to be a witch of formidable stature. Her father is the editor of the wizarding world tabloid, the Quibbler, who’s stories are often very outlandish and unbelievable. As a result, Luna herself believes and concocts some very silly theories.
Luna accompanied Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, and Ginny to the Ministry of Magic headquarters to rescue Sirius Black towards the end of her fourth year. She fought valiantly, proving to be a valuable asset.
Days after the ordeal, she and Harry met in the deserted halls of Hogwarts, while Luna was posting a request on a bulletin board for her stolen items to be returned. During their conversation, Harry begins to feel sorry for Luna, and also begins to relate to her.
Luna reveals to Harry that her mother was killed when one of her experimental spells backfired. Harry’s recent loss of a parental figure allows him to warm up to Luna a great deal. When Harry expresses his sympathy, Luna says something very interesting concerning loved ones that have passed on, and the archway in the Department of Mysteries... This talk helps Harry cope with his grief after Sirius’ death. Luna believes many outrageous things, yet Harry heard voices beyond the veil, as well...
We definitely haven’t seen the last of Luna. By the end of “Order of the Phoenix”, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville have all warmed up to her, even to the point that Hermione doesn’t interject a sarcastic comment when Luna explains that she and her father will be leaving on an expedition to look for Crumple-Horned Snorkacks over the summer.
Luna has already begun to prove her worth. She is devoted to the DA, and willing to fight along side her comrades. Also, beneath all of her wildly preposterous theories, there seems to be some information of value...
