HARRY/HERMIONE Possibility in Canon: 2/5 Stars - S.O.S.! - Hermione has equal chance of hooking up with Harry, Ron, or no one at all... I guess. I'm doubting this one. Possibility in Fanon: 3/5 Stars - Rough Waters - The fanon crowd is pretty much split. Most people are either for Harry/Hermione or for Ron/Hermione, rarely both. Tessa thinks: 1/5 Stars - SHIP has sunk - When the fanon crowd splits, I'll be heading over to hang with Ron/Hermione fanlisters. I can't stand H/Hr. Average: 2/5 Stars - S.O.S.! - This SHIP is dyin'. Harry/Hermione... the SHIP to satisfy the romantic thoughts of people who want Harry to live "happily ever after." Ok, onward. Harry/Hermione in canon could be well justified. H/Hr fans like to point out subtle hints towards this happening. I don't think so. Personally? If there's something going on, it's been VERY well covered up. Most of said "hints" in canon point out only that Harry and Hermione are FRIENDS... nothing more. He rescues her from centaurs, etc. etc. etc. Would you like your best friend to die? The only thing I can think that might actually point to a H/Hr romance in the NOVELS would be, in Movie 3, when Hermione, Ron and Harry are standing up above Hagrid's hut and they think Buckbeak is going to be executed. Hermione latches herself onto Ron (who's SHE interested in?), and then Harry latches himself onto Hermione. That's seriously the only thing I can think of. Other than that.... it is all merely friendship acts. If a H/Hr couple is hinted at, it is merely from Harry's side. Hermione appears to be more interested in Ron. As for the Fanon side of things... as I said up there *points*... Fanon world tends to be split on this one. People want Hermione to be either paired with Harry or paired with Ron. Sometimes, they want her to be paired with Draco, but although that's common, they know it probably won't happen in the books so they have one of the Trio's guys to back up their Hermione pairage theories. Because I am not a big H/Hr reader, I can't tell you a very un-baised report of what goes on in H/Hr fics. I CAN tell you that the ones I've read have been "oh, I so wish that evil would disappear forever and Harry and I could live happily ever after" in plotline, or "oh, it's so dreadful that I can't tell Hermione how I REALLY feel..." Personally, I don't see Harry as focusing on girls right now, regardless of his age and hormones. He's got other stuff to worry about. And I don't see Hermione secretly pining after Harry, either. I think she would feel that she needs to tell him so it's not a secret from him, because he's got too much to deal with. Hermione's quite sensible like that. OR, I suppose she could keep it a secret because he's got too much to deal with, but where's the fun in that? Yes, I realize I'm off topic AND I'm rambling. Whoops. The point is, H/Hr is just not justified in my mind. I think it's a little ridiculus to guess at the inner workings of Hermione's mind and pretend that she's not interested in boys all together. Her thing with Krum, obviously... not to mention other clues. Go check out the R/Hr for that, though. You can tell what I think. Heh. Questions, comments, counter-arguments, angry letters? Send 'em to tessa@beyondthebooks.zzn.com. Put H/Hr in the subject line, so I know what's going on. |
