...to my weblog. There probably won't be something new every day, but keep coming by and have a look what makes my day (or doesn't....). And if you have any comments, drop me a line in my guestbook! |

Wednesday, Apr. 24, 2002 My Satellite dish has packed in again. I am not totally devoid of visual entertainment, though. I can still see a bunch of Arabic channels – shukran! And BBC World. Which is a bit repetitive – you can see the same news report only so many times. But at least BBC World is a bit better than CNN, which is total boredom. At least you get the odd documentary, although if I see Jeremy Clarkson just once more, I smash the damn telly….. But they are re-running Michael Palin and his Hemingway-travel show. That’s quite good. Well, whatever, more needle point and reading then! Sunday, Apr. 21, 2002 Didn't feel so well today. Went to work, but my blood pressure was so low, I felt really nauseous - same as always, my period started last night, I woke up a couple of times during the night from the cramps, so I was knackered today. Went home at 12pm. Went to buy some groceries quickly, then spent the afternoon on the sofa, doing my needlepoint. Karin is back from Germany for 2 weeks, she was up for about an hour for a chat, now I'm going to fix dinner and I think I will have an early night. Friday, Apr. 19, 2002 Slow day at home. Got up at ten, had a cup of tea, watched the news, had breakfast, did some needlepoint (quite laughing, I like it! It is very relaxing...) Just thought I'd share this with you: It is now 7.30 pm and still 20 degrees! Thursday, Apr. 18, 2002 8 p.m. Can’t be bothered to go shopping for groceries at the moment, so I am living on take-away food…Last night it was a medium shrimp pizza with extra cheese from Domino’s, tonight it’s Thai! Chicken & Coconut soup, spicy – Tom Kah Gai Rice noodles hot sweet with chicken – Pad Thai Curry beef with potatoes and peanuts – Gaeng Massaman Too much for one person? No problem, I can re-heat it tomorrow. Yeah, right! Yum! Oh, by the way, it’s WEEKEND! Yeah!! About an hour later Done with gorging down the food. With chopsticks. I wield the fastest chopsticks west of Bangkok. Ok, ok, Thais don’t use chopsticks, I know! So what. If it’s food, I can eat it with chopsticks. In Vietnam we used to eat everything with those darn things, lobster, Spaghetti Bolognese, fried squirrels…. Oh, and by the way….HEARTBURN!!!! Not sure if it was the curry beef, the Thai noodles or perhaps the soup after all? Urgh. Belch. Sizzle. I think I need a cuppa…. Ten minutes later… Immediate and dangerous tea-cup emergency. Meaning, not having a clean one. They’re all in the sink, yucky old tea-stains and all. Bad girl. It also looks like I am going to have a Lactose-free day tomorrow, i.e. ran out of said item. Bugger. Well, it’s enough for another cuppa. Sunday, Apr. 14, 2002 War mit Lynn beim Chinesen. Haben uns entschieden, zurueck zu laufen. Und prompt hatten wir so ein paar aegyptische Duennbrettbohrer an den Fersen. Welcome! Where are you from? Where are you going? Hilfe! Werdet erwachsen, ihr daemlichen A|"\';"|\'\'!@#$%^&! Es hat ungefaehr 20 Minuten gedauert, bis sie es endlich gerafft haben und sich verpissten. Argh! Friday, Apr. 12, 2002 They cancelled the walk because of the "civil unrest". Armoured cars, tear-gas, rubber bullets. A whole lot of fun! Tuesday, Apr. 09, 2002 A very long week. Left work late every day since Saturday. Been home short of 8pm every night. I am totally knackered. Tomorrow is going to be another tough one, as my boss has a meeting with customers in Holland and is bound to call a lot for quick price calculations. Was planning to take part in that charity walk on Friday. About 12 km, from the Sheraton in Montazah to nobody-knows-where. But I might give that a pass. I think it would be wiser just to chill on Friday, as it will be another 1-day weekend only. Have just come in from a dinner at Les’ place. Was quite nice. That American bloke Don was there again and the Irish teacher, Catherine. Nice woman. Now I think I am just gonna go straight to bed, I can barely keep my eyes open. Oh, the funny thing of the day: Catherine and Ji telling me about the security briefing at the American school – how to search your car for terrorist bombs and so on. Pretty hilarious. Thursday, Apr. 04, 2002 And another week behind me. Still not terribly warm, about 22 degrees today. Lots of rain in the past week. Can somebody tell the weather people up in the clouds that it’s not supposed to rain up here? Desert, you know…. Dry, no rain! Reminds me of last year, when we were driving back to Alex after our holiday in Dahab, going from East to West, straight through the Sinai. And the only time we stop and I sit behind a sand dune to take a leak, it rains!!! I mean, that is just outrageous, rain in the Sinai! They did not mention that in the Old Testament! Talking of which, how on earth did Moses manage to wander about in the Sinai for 40 years? Really bad sense of direction, or what? It is not that large…. Ok, I’m rambling…. The other two are off for a two-week holiday in merry old England. So I have the sample room all to myself, puke! To get off to a nice start, both my bosses will be traveling to meet customers next week. Which means a shit load of samples to get ready in no time whatsoever. Oh good, I was afraid I would get bored…. Monday, Apr. 01, 2002 Easter. Sleeping, reading, went shopping big time yesterday and will start a major cooking operation now. Hardboiled some eggs, won’t paint them, though. Did some needle point, will cut my hair later. Just chatted online with Nigel, who told me some news story that I apparently missed. Bush + Blair discussing a possible attack of Iraq and Iraq in turn considering a pre-emptive strike against Israel? What The Fuck? I can only honestly hope that is a turkey! Fucking hell, am I glad that I am living as a European in an Arab country, I’m sure they will all be pleased as hell to have me around once that shit should really happen! A group of school kids just passed the house, angry, chanting something. Not difficult to figure out, what they were so angry about. Not a good time to be out in the street with a white face, I guess. Fucking Sharon. I just wish that idiot would get lost. I wish, Rabin would not have been assassinated. I wish those stupid Palestinians would stop blowing themselves up. When will they understand that retaliations does not serve any purpose? Violence just results in more violence. You want the violence to stop, then stop being violent yourself. It’s so easy to see, why can’t someone be reasonable and make the first step? |

Ever wondered if I am the only non-Egyptian person living here that thinks this country is strange? Go and have a look at Walters' World, that's the site of my colleague Steve. It's worth a look, although he is actually funnier live! |
