Hat Yai Municipal Park

The park is located on Kanchanawanit Road and is approximately six kilometers from the city center on the Hat Yai-Songkhla Highway. A popular recreational spot for the local residents, the park is beautifully decorated with colorful flowers. With a pavilion in the middle of the pond, an aviary, and food stalls, the park is the perfect place to spend a peaceful evening. Additional attractions include a statue of King Rama V that is enshrined at the foot of the hill near the aviary, a hill-top Brahman shrine and a jade statue of Guan-yin, the Chinese Goddess situated, at the southern foothill near the boy-scout camp

Geographically, the public park’s compound covers the mountainous areas. At some mountaintops situated the venerating statues of Brahma, Kuan Yin, and Buddha. Besides being a big public park that includes a small zoo, its areas are occasionally the venue for festivals and official ceremonies.

Phra Buddha Mongkol Maharaj - The blessing Buddha Image is said to be the biggest in southern Thailand, 19.9 meters high, made of 200 tons of brass, situated at the peak of “Khor Hong Mountain” of Hatyai City Municipal Park. It is going to be another tourist attraction of Hatyai.

By courtesy of the Patriarch of Thailand’s Buddhist monks, the relic of Lord Buddha will be placed in the head of the image for prosperity.

4-faces Brahma Image
Situated at the mountaintop of “Chumsak Mountain” within the Hatyai City Municipal Park, the steep road that may need a powerful vehicle to climb up to the shrine of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. The image is daily visited by tourists and devotees mostly from Malaysia and Singapore.

Kuan Yin
(Chinese goddess of mercy and compassion) - The statue of Bodhisattva Kuan Yin, situated at Hatyai City Municipal Park, was built with 8 white jadeite stones taken from China. It measures 9.9 meters in height and weighs some 80 tons. Generally known for her mercy and compassion offered to every thing and creature, according to Chinese tales, Bodhisattva Kuan Yin has been highly respected among Buddhists. Kuan Yin’s followers are normally vegetarians, or at least they don’t eat beef. Paying worship to Kuan Yin is believed to bring in safety, prosperity and happiness. From the shrine, an aerial view of Hatyai can be seen. At dusk, it is quite an intriguing view.


Songkhla Zoo

The zoo is located out of Songkhla town in the area called “Suan Toon”, some 4km from the Rajabhat Institute Songkhla on Songkhla-Chana Road. Like any big zoo, various wild-animals both domestic and imported are well arranged in provided zones, and with rest areas and viewpoints that offer the admiring views of Songkhla that can be seen as far as Cat and Rat Islands in the Gulf of Thailand. The zoo covers a big area of 911 Rais of land, including some hills. The road is like the go up-and-down type, so you can take a vehicle or else you have to walk, and that can be very exhausting.

Animal Collection Exhibition Zones:
Zone 1 - Exhibits a collection of flightless birds, such as Ostrich, Emu, Rhea, Cassowary, as well other animal species, such as Flamingo and Meer Kat.
Zone 2 - Exhibits hoofed animals, such as Spotted Deer (Axis Deer), Brow-Antlered Deer (Eld's Deer), Sambar Deer, Barking Deer, Fea's Muntjak, Lesser Malay Chevrota, Serow, Banteng, Guar, and more. Zone 2 also hosts heavy weight animals such as Elephant and Hippopotamus.
Zone 3 - Zone 3 exhibits carnivores, such as various species of wild cats, including Bengal Tiger, Indochinese Tiger, Black Jaguar, Cheetah, Clouded Leopard, as well as other major species. About a 100 meters away, there is also a collection of several species of bears on exhibit.
Zone 4 - Zone comprises collections of non-Thai animal species, with African animals such as Giraffe, Camel, Nyala, Red Lechwe and more. With other species like the Zebra coming soon.
Zone 5 - A collection of exotic birds from Thailand and around the world are featured in this zone, comprising a various species of Parrots, Macaws, aquatic birds, Hornbills, Pheasant, and other exotic birds. Of the 13 species of Thai Hornbills, Songkhla Zoo features 6 species. So don't miss out.
Zone 6 - Zone 6 is the Monkey zone featuring Chimpanzees, Orangutan, and wide variety of Thai monkeys, Langurs and Baboons. Exhibits in this zone imitate a truly natural environment consistent with the natural habitat of the animals.
Zone 7 - Zone 7 is the final stop on the Songkhla Zoo tour. The zone is a combination of animal exhibition and breeding center. You will find the Malayan Tapir dwelling here as well as a center for breeding the Tapirs. The Zoological Park Organization's policy is to preserve and breed the 15 endangered species of Thailand, and Songkhla has been put in charge of the 4 local species of Southern Thailand: Brow-Antlered Deer (Eld's Deer), Serow, Fea's Muntjak and Malayan Tapir.

Outdoor Camping - Songkhla Zoo provides camping grounds with facilities for educational institutions as well as organizations from both government and private sectors to experience the great outdoors. Participants will get the opportunity to learn about nature, wildlife and forests by engaging in outdoor activities, such as animal watching (at night as well), forest trekking--led by experienced Songkhla Zoo group leaders. View Point - Songkhla Zoo feature a view point consisting of a view tower built on a tree and a Thai pavillion, both amidst a natural surrounding, commanding a panoramic view of Songkhla Zoo and the deep blue sea. Khao Namkhang Historical Tunnel

This specific manmade tunnel is situated in Khao Namkhang National Park in Nathawee district. The tunnel was the site of ex-members of Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) who were disarmed and turned to join in developing the Kingdom of Thailand. The tunnel itself is very alike the one in Amphoe Betong, Yala. Anyway, this tunnel is of the bigger size and firmer established. It was dug into the mountain and took about 2 years to complete. Approximated 1,000 meters of winding paths in total length, some function rooms, and multiple entrance-exit, it is, so said, able to accommodate 200 people.
