Cimarroncito Reservoir

Back at camp we put away a quick breakfast of apple pop tarts, banana chips, and hot chocolate.  We broke camp and hiked to our last camp of our trek, Clarks Fork.

We made Clarks Fork by lunch and had a lunch of squeeze cheese, crackers, cookies, and lemonade.  A steady shower fell for most the afternoon.  We played hearts under the dining fly until the rain stopped and then we held a lottery to distribute the crew gear that we bought for our trek.

Mike K. drew the first aid kit
Scott R drew the AXE
Jeff C. drew the Saw
David S. drew the Bear Bag
Mike P drew the 2 6 foot poles
Bob S drew the rope for the bear bag
Larry V drew the Map Book
Morgan M drew the flint & steel kit
Gordon W drew the US trail flag
Bruce L drew the Dining Fly rope and pins
Rob W drew the Swiss army knife
Peter L drew the file and sharpening stone
John E drew the crew compass

After the rain stopped we were off on our last side hike adventure in search of fallen tree limbs that we could cut sections in which we had planned to burn the Philmont brands into at the staff campfire this evening.  Although we were told later that night that we could not burn any brands into cut trees but could only burn brands in our belts and boots.

Day 12, August 16 -- We had a quick breakfast of poptarts, orange juice, and hot chocolate.  We broke camp and started our final hike down hill to our pick up point and within about an hour we were right on time for our transportation back to HQ tent city where we turn in our crew gear to the QM and hot the showers and/or the snack bar and trading post to buy our Philmont neckerchiefs, belt buckets, patches, etc.
In the afternoon we toured the town of Cimarron, St. James Hotel, Villa Philmonte, and the Seton Museum.  That evening we went to the closing campfire where we received our Philmont Arrowhead Patch.

Day 13, August 17 -- At 10:30 am we made our last side hike up to the Tooth of Time we reached the top at 1:00 pm and we took a crew picture on the tooth summit and took the Stockade trail straight down and were back at HQ packed and on board the Swope Express at 3:00 pm on our way to our rail head for Chicago, Illinois.

From one unforgettable high adventure trip of over 50 miles of pristine scenery at altitudes varying from about 7,200 to 10,500 feet.  It was a real hiking and camping experience.

No scout should miss an opportunity to go to Philmont.
