We arrived at Philmont at 2:00 pm, we were met by our Philmont Ranger Craig Jones of Spanish Forks, UT.  We got our tent city tent assignments, went to the health lodge to turn in our medical forms and get a recheck to assure that everyone was OK to go on the trail for the next 10 days.  We were outfitted at the quartermaster with our crew gear supplied by Philmont.  With some time to spare we checked out the trading post and discovered a snack bar that sold the GOOD STUFF that all scouts like to eat. At  about 4:50 pm we had our official Crew Photo taken and then went to participate in retreat of the colors before dinner.  Mr. Drake and Peter met with the trip planner to work out our itinerary, made arrangements to put our money in the camp safe, settle our expedition bill for crew equipment and make arrangements with public relations staff to be with our crew and others on the expedition.  We had dinner of sloppy joes, baked beans, Cole slaw and cold milk and sherbet for dessert.  After dinner our crew hiked up the the water tank just above tent city and were able to watch a family of deer come down from the hills into the meadow just below the Tooth of Time.

At 8:15 pm we went to our first campfire and were welcomed to Philmont and told the New Mexico Story, a history of the land that is now Philmont.

At 10:00 pm we all went to bed quite tired for we would have an early start in the morning.
