last updated May 12th, 2009
The Fort Hood Area HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization that builds decent affordable homes for low-income families that currently live in substandard housing.  The homes are then sold to those families at no profit and with no interest charged.  Because of Habitat's no profit loans, mortgage payments contribute to a Fund for Humanity which in turn provides money to build more houses.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individuals, corporate donors, churches, businesses and civic organizations  provide money and materials to build Habitat homes. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others.
