Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery

Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery
Fayette County, Georgia

During the spring I will be attempting to transcribe the Bethany Cemetery. It's a decent-sized cemetery so I'll be putting up info here gradually. This effort has a twofold purpose. The first is simply to make a contribution to the online community - specifically to help those whose ancestors may be buried at Bethany. Especially if you live out of state this could be very helpful. The second purpose is to contribute to the Tombstone Transcription Project. I would encourage you, no matter where you live, to read up on this project and consider making a contribution. I don't have any family at Bethany. It just happens to be across the street from my house. Won't you consider transcribing a cemetery that's local to you?

I'm going to attempt to transcribe these entries 'geographically' rather than alphabetically. The reason is that the locations of the stones can reveal important clues about unknown family members and relationships. It's kinda hard to list stones in the order in which they appear, so this will be kind of an approximation. Are you wondering how you can quickly find your family without this list being alphabetized? In Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, go under Edit, and Find on this page. Then just enter the name you're interested in, and, if its here, MIE will jump right down to it. Netscape users, would one of you be so kind as to let me know how this works on Netscape so I can put those instructions here, too? Thanks!

I've tried to be very careful in transcribing exactly what appears on the stones. If you have a question about a name or date and would like me to verify, just let me know and I'll walk over there and double check. Jan Bunten
