Let us introduce ourselves!
We are the Hughes Family: Jim, Joyce, Ashley (15) and Christopher (14).
We have been in full time ministry for six years, sharing the Love of Christ, His Hope and Salvation with ALL that we meet. We have traveled through 41 states and a big portion of Mexico. This site is about stepping off the cliff and alowing God to work through you. It is about our six month bicycle journey and about what God is currently doing through us in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico.
On July 4th 2002 we felt like the Lord was telling us to slow down. We were missing too many people. We set off on bicycles from Denver, Colorado. Now we were able to see the ants cross the road! We didn't miss as many opportunities and were able to see more lives transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. We shared Christ wherever we went: stores, parks, street corners, churches, etc. He opened doors of opportunity everywhere. They are alot easier to see when you slow down and give up your own agenda.
There are two questions that we get asked alot. Where are you going next? How are you supported? There is also one statement said alot: You all are CRAZY! I could never do that!
Where Are We Going Next:
Our steps are ordered by the Lord. He gives us a general destination. As we travel that road, He opens doors all the way and we wind up all sorts of places. We began in Denver, Colorado, cycled across Nebraska, then south into Kansas. From Kansas, we rode south through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. We have bicycled into Mexico. We entered at Nogales on December 5th and headed south. We are now in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico working with various ministries here and are in the process of begining an outreach center... How We Are Supported:
Mattew 6 says it all. The birds of the air don't worry about where their next meal is coming from. Why should we? The fields don't worry about their clothing. Why should we? As we seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, our Daddy takes care of us. It is important to be about the Father's business. As we lay aside our own agenda and do the things that He has called us to do, He provides our every need. Each morning when we pray, we let God know our needs for the day. Throughout the day, we see how He lays things on peoples hearts and provides in Mighty ways. (See 2000 Mile U-Turn for examples)
Crazy For Jesus:
Looking through the worlds eyes, according to the worlds standards, a family of four, riding bicycles, and pulling four trailers around the country, with no home, no actual destination and no money, is not only crazy. It's ludicrous!!!! But if we are truly serving God, we don't follow this world's system. We follow God's system. His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Kingdom principals differ greatly from world standards. (See God's System vs Worlds system)
