TEXAS HIGHLIGHTS

These are highlights of our bicycle trip across America.  There is no way that we can relate  EVERYTHING that has happened out here.  We talk to dozens of people each day about the Lord---at stores, parks, along the side of the road, everywhere that we go.  The following are examples of some of the awesome ways that the Lord is moving out here.

September 17--19 We camped at Tex-homa lake on the Texas side.  It was beautiful and quite relaxing, even though it was kind of chilly.  We were able to share with the campground hosts.
The campground was just a couple of miles from a little town called Sherwood.  On Wednesday we fellowshipped at Sherwood Baptist Church.  Jim was able to speak to the congregation for about ten minutes.  The pastor said that we should stay there and evangelize the town for them.  Jim encouraged them to reach out into their community and make an effect for Christ.  God plants us all in different places and we can't expect someone else to work our field for us.
Wednesday night the wind blew real hard and it rained.  The sleeping bags were a little wet, but most everything else stayed dry.The clouds looked real threateneing so we stayed another day.  Also last night three raccoons got into our food trailer.  Jim got up three times to chase them away.  They weren't afraid of humans and kept coming back.  In a way it was kind of cute.  They didn't hurt anything, just ate a half loaf of bread, half a bag of cereal and some hot cheese nip crackers. (Wonder if they got heart burn)

September 20th---Jim hoped to get to Fort Worth today, but then we realized that we still had about a hundred miles to go.  We talked to alot of people today as we rode through  several towns between Tex-homa Lake and Aubrey.  We met a man and his wife out for a forty mile ride.  He is a pastor in a town outside of Dallas.  He needed some encouragement and God brought us together to encourage each other.
We were still about fifteen miles north of Denton in Aubrey.  It was about 4:15.  We stopped at a convenience store.  While there, a woman and her two boys stopped to ask about the bikes.  She thought what we were doing was cool.  She was a Christian and said that she would pray for us.  We rode about two miles up the road and she had turned around and was coming back to find us.  The Lord had told her to invite us to spend the night in their garage apartment.  I had just prayed as we were leaving the store for Him to open a door for somewhere to sleep.  Praise God! He did!  Her husband is a new believer and this was an encouragement to him.  Jim was able to share alot with him and he made some major decisions about simplifying his life for Christ.
We hadn't been at there house five minutes when Kirby (the husband) says, "Looks like you need another trailer.  We have one that you can have."
(Up until this point Ashley wasn't pulling a trailer.  We had been praying about how to consolidate our things more due to the weight.  This was an awesome blessing--even though Ashley wasn't so sure at first!) It is a nice trailer and it hooks to the seat, perfect for Ashley's bike. God knows exactly what we need, and  when we need it.

September 21---We didn't leave Aubrey until close to noon.  We got to Denton around 2:00.  Christopher had a flat in his trailer tire.  It still has the regular tires in it.  Jim fixed it with the slime (tire sealant) but we had to keep pumping it all the way to Keller.  About 5:00 we stopped at McDonalds for an ice cream.  When we were leaving we met a couple and were able to minister to them for about an hour.  We got back on the road and had gone about a half mile when they pulled up and gave us a love offering.  We went another four or five miles and they were sitting at the side of the road waiting for us.  They had gone home and gotten some patch stuff for Christopher's bike.
September 22---We spent the night last night in the church yard of Harvest Christian Church in Keller.  We fellowshipped there this morning before riding on to Fort Worth.
We arrived in Fort Worth around 4:00 and rode across town to Westside Victory Baptist Church.
(This is our home church.  They are the ones that sent us out on the road six years ago.  Pastor Larry and the people there are very special to us.)  We hadn't been there five minutes when Pastor Larry drove into the parking lot.  He was surprised and excited to see us.  We shared for about an hour before it was time for church to start.  We met new and old faces.
