I have recently been diagnosed with Diabetes
and felt I had to share my story. I am only 28 years old and from
what I have learned, age really doesn't matter.

There are two types of Diabetes, each just as serious as the other.

TYPE ONE: majority are diagnosed as children; very little or no insulin
production; insulin dependent

TYPE TWO: usually onsets after the age of 30; can be diet
controlled, insulin or oral medications; statistically
speaking, one of the most common diseases in adults
and the third most dangerous

I was diagnosed with TYPE TWO Diabetes. It was the biggest shock of my life.
I have in the past had high triglicerids (combination sugar/cholestoral levels)
but never in a million years did I think I would be diagnosed
with Diabetes. I can honestly say now though, that
it was the best thing I could have ever had happen to me.
I have lost 11 lbs since being diagnosed and am
well on my way to losing more.

Of course I do not believe that having Diabetes is a
good thing but when you are Diabetic, you need to follow
a healthy active lifestyle and diet.
I have grown up with problems with Eating Disorders.
The first being Bulemia, and the second Compulsive Overeating.
I have tried many medications, diets, counseling, etc. in
order to find a "cure" for them, to no avail.
Yet since I have been diagnosed, I have had little difficulty
sticking to a diet and not bingeing.

Before I was diagnosed, I wondered why I was so stiff and tired all the time.
I learned, through a group session, that high blood sugar
was a partial cause of this. I had no idea what all the
symptoms and causes of Diabeteswere until I attended this session. I felt
thirsty constantly, tired, had blurred vision and urinated
constantly. I thank God my family Doctor caught my high sugar levels in time.

There are different levels of sugar which remain more
or less constant without detection. When I was diagnosed,
I was high, yet fairly low in comparason to most. My level
was 10.1. Normal is anything below 7.0 fasting level.
There are several different ways to control your sugar level.
With my level, I am to follow a healthy diet
and active living.
