The Sparkle Ponies that were made in 1988 and stocked on store shelves did not have a symbol on their cheek. However, special mail order Sparkle Ponies did have a symbol on the cheek. This is the main difference that is used to distinguish the two. However, what made all of the Sparkle Ponies special was that their skin could "sparkle". See the pictures below to see for yourself. Also, another new My Little Pony that became a favorite was produced. These were the Candy Cane Ponies. These ponies had scented hair and smelled sweet. Their hair was done in perfect curls of two intertwined colors. This was done so that the pony would apear to have "Candy Cane Curls". There were three curls in the mane and four curls in the tail. Perfume Puff Ponies were also new ponies that were released in 1988. These ponies came with perfume which smelled sweet. See the pictures below. Play Time Baby Brother Ponies, also made in 1988, were perfect miniatures of their bigger companions, the Big Brother Ponies. There were only six made and they were Baby Paws, Baby Racer, Baby Leaper, Baby Waddles, Baby Drummer, and Baby Countdown. The Dance'n Prance Ponies could do nothing that any other pony could do before; dance. These ponies were the first ponies to "move" on their own, with the help of a knob. See the pictures below. The Loving Family Ponies was a new concept introduced in 1988. These pony families each had a mother, a father, and a baby which was either a boy or a girl. For example, the Sweet Celebrations family had a mommy (Mommy Sweet Celebrations), a daddy (Daddy Sweet Celebrations), and a baby (Baby Sweet Celebrations) which was a boy. There were Loving Family Pony sets sold outside of the United States. For more information on these ponies, check out the International Page. Baby Ponies and Pretty Pals were also released in 1988. Each baby pony came with it's own pal which shared the same symbol as the baby pony, but was a different animal. For example, Baby Fleecy came with Baby Woolley which was a lamb. 1988 was another exciting year for My Little Pony. Sunshine Ponies, Windy Wing Ponies, and Sparkle Ponies are just a few of the My Little Ponies that were produced in this year.
