¡ Hola !, ¿kumustá kayó?
¿Kumustá kayó? How are you?, Kaibigan, my friend, this is the salute between our two communities, the hope that everyday we get closer to know us better, the hope that the breaking of 1898-1946 disappears, so that the Filipinos people could understand their grandparents, that fought against Spain, but in Spanish!(1) |

Between 1898 and 1946 there was a very important cultural breaking: the one that united the Filipinas with the Hispanic world (México, Spain, Puerto Rico, ...):
After the Hispanic-Northamerican war first (1898), and the Filipinas-Northamerican war after (1899-1906), the winning army (the one of the United States) and its Government, made their best efforts to make dissapear all signs of the hispanics in the islands. |
|
The northamerican education taught the Filipinos to hate the Spanish colonial period forgetting the cruelty of the war betweeen Filipinas and USA in wich about 200.000 Filipinos died, unknown quantity during the "cruel" Spanish domination. |

That's why this page kaibigankastil (kaibigan kastila), born at the beginning of the year of the Centennial (1998) wants to help with the closeness between Filipinos, Spanish and Hispanics in general. |

(1) By saying this we're refering to the Filipino intelectuality (Rizal, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Mabini, ...), and to the Filipina's Army leaders (Ricarte, Gregorio del Pilar, ...) and the Filipinas middle class of the time. They were the intelectual class "the parents of the birthplace", a 10% of the Filipinas population in 1898. |
