FESTA
Each year in late August Roccamorice has a three-day festa for saints Bartolomeo, Emidio, Donato and Maria.  The festa includes a procession to the Eremo di S. Bartolomeo, to bring the 800 year-old wooden statue of S. Bartolomeo, which is kept there, back to town.  The festa is a wonderful mix of religious and secular celebrations.  There are processions of the saints' statues, special masses at the church, fireworks, music, and nightly entertainment.
On the left, the procession to the S. Bartolomeo hermitage to get the statue of S. Bartolomeo; on the right, the hermitage.
The photo at left is in the hermitage; the statue is being removed from its niche to be carried back to town.  At right is a photo of the procession back to town; the people take turns carrying the statue.See La Rocca Pg. 3 for more pictures of the hermitage.
Back in town, the statue of S. Bartolomeo is decorated with flowers donated by emigrant Roccolani and it is carried through the streets, finally to be placed in the church of S. Donato, as seen in the photo on the right.
During the festa a band plays daily, and there are processions of the saints' statues through the town.
On the left is S. Emidio, and on the right is S. Donato, Roccamorice's patron saint.
At night the town is lit with bright lights and fireworks, and there is nightly entertainment, including performers such as the dancers below.
