1st Sgt. Asa Toombs Co. G, 53rd PA Infantry Enlisted 10/29/1861 as a Pvt. Present until wounded at Fair Oaks, VA in 1862. He was shot through the chest & right lung. Returned to duty in Jan. of 1863. Reenlisted 12/22/1863. Promoted Corporal 4/8/1864, Sgt. 9/6/1864, & 1st Sgt. 2/15/1865. He was discharged 6/30/1865 at Washington, D.C. After his wounding he was present for every campaign. He died July 29, 1868. Cause of death given as affects of his wounding at Fair Oaks. |

Capt. Robert C. Payne Co. G, 8th PA Cavalry Enlisted as a Corporal in Co. B 7/23/1861. Promoted Sgt. 3/7/182. Also served as Commissary & Quartermaster Sgt. until promotion to 1st Sgt. 2/15/1864. Commissioned 2nd Lt. 8/6/64, and 1st Lt. of Co. G on 12/20/1864. Promoted to Captain by Brevet on 4/7/1865. He was captured at Leedstown, VA on 12/3/1862 & returned to duty 4/1863. He reenlisted 12/31/1863. Accidently wounded during regimental drill in the winter of 1861-62 when a company nearby fired their revolvers into the air while his company was passing in front of them. One of the bullets struck him in the head. Wound not serious. |
