Fields of Interest

My main fields of interest are Chinese and American politics. Currently, I am lecturing four subjects in the Department of International Relations, Gadjah Mada University. Below are simple abstracts of each subject, ended by links to their respective syllabus. (Please note that as the subjects are taught in Indonesian, the syllabi are also written in Indonesian).

Politics and Government of the United States (taught in Semester One)

As the only hegemonic power in today's world, the United States is a very interesting object of studies to those who learn international relations. Its history, culture, politics and government, economy, law, and much more will enrich a scholar's understanding about the development of international relations.

Preceded by a short historical analysis, this subject will discuss some important issues about contemporary American politics and government. [Syllabus].

U.S. Foreign Policy (taught in Semester Two)

This subject will invite students to see basic features of American foreign policy, from its history and development, character, basis, purpose, actors, to decision-making process. This is an introductory subject, concerning the very wide aspects of American foreign policy.

Those who want to enroll in this subject may find it advantageous if they have already taken Politics and Government of the United States before. [Syllabus].

Contemporary Chinese Politics and Economy (previously Politics and Government of the People's Republic of China, taught in Semester One)

The People's Republic of China is a big country with a lot of problems; however, it is also a nation who has the very rich potentials. Not only will China soon become an 'economic superpower', but it also develops into an important, strategic actor in global politics and security arrangements.

This subject is intended to develop a better understanding about the dynamics of contemporary Chinese politics and economy. [Syllabus].

Chinese Foreign Policy (taught in Semester Two)

An extension from Contemporary Chinese Politics and Economy, this subject will discuss China's position as one of the major political and economic powers of today. Began with the history of China's foreign relations until the nineteenth century, it will proceed with analysis about the concepts and practice of Chinese foreign policy, especially in its relations with the U.S., Russia, Japan, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. [Syllabus].
