As we make our preparations for the Thanksgiving Season, it's good and appropriate to think about the Giver of the good gifts that sustain the earth which provides for us.

"You visit the earth and water it, you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide the people with grain, for so you have prepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with richness. The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy." Psalm 65:9-13

Were it not for the generous provision of God, for His careful attention to our physical needs as His creation, for His kind benevolence toward us, how would we exist? Whether it is a conscious thought or not, we are dependent upon God and owe Him our gratitude.

Seed time and harvest continue just as He designed them as the earth rotates through its prescribed seasons. Faithful to its created design, the earth flows through its seasons. After sleeping and replenishing itself through the winter it springs forth with an abundance of new life. Even the desert and arid places respond to the rains with a show of flowers and green grass. Fields are sown from seed produced the previous year which have within them their God given design to sprout and reproduce themselves, and again we are sustained. From the flocks, from the cattle of a thousand hills, we enjoy red and white meats that our taste buds savor.

God planned it all so well! And not only where our physical needs are concerned. He has made a wonderful provision for our spiritual need as well. In the midst of our Thanksgiving, let's not forget our Greatest Thanksgiving! Give thanks for His gift of Salvation - the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life! John 3:16 says,
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life."

While the world around us may at times appear to be a seething pot full of uncertainty and insanity, God's river of blessings is inexhaustible and His mercy is renewed toward us daily providing everything that we need for life and godliness adding a dimension of inexpressible richness to our lives that can't be found elsewhere. Without a doubt, God has our best interest in mind.

Thanks be to God for His grace and kindness toward us!
