CHILDREN No one deserves to be abused. No one. Children get the idea that they are bad and deserve to be punished. If a child’s behavior is wrong, the child may need discipline.
I don' t recommend hitting a child. The adult swing can cause major physical damage to a child. An adult hitting a child tells the child that hitting is okay, especially if the hitter is bigger.
Appropriate discipline varies with the age and mental development of the child, and the infraction. More?
Screaming, hitting with other than the palm of the hand, kicking, biting, pouring boiling water over the child, locking the child in a closet, etc. are forms of abuse—not discipline.
