| Eric Steele, an American undercover operative in Germany, has his cover blown after testifying against a top Frankfurt gangster. Out of a job and pastured by the Agency in Baltimore, he employs his special talent to land a top position with an old line financial firm. Unknown to him, two senior officers of the firm have hired an international assassin to kill the firm's president, making it appear as an accident. But, even as Steele's scheme advances, he becomes the target of deadly revenge because of his testimony in Germany. Investigating the company president's death, police suspect murder and discover a conspiracy to take over the company by a Washington, D.C. law firm that has plans to launder clients' untaxed income. After an unsuccessful attempt on Steele's life that instead takes the life of his dream girl, he agrees to aid the police. The police investigation of the murder and conspiracy plays out to an exciting ending. It is technically correct, fast paced, and heavy with human issues. The story centers in and around a fictitious old line Baltimore financial house and woven into the story are actual Baltimore locations. |
