THE BARCLAY FAMILY
BARCLAY CLAN RESEARCH
In researching the history of the surname Barclay it dates back to 1069 AD, when Roger deBarerchelai and his son John came to England with William the Conqueror. John deBarerchelai was granted lands  for the service of accompanying Margaret ( St. Margaret ) to Scotland, by King Malcolm of Canmore. The lands of Towie,near Turiff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. John deBerchelai had three sons by the names of Walter, Alexander and Richard.
The Barclay's have two tartans a dress, and a ancient hunting tartan, which have existed since the 1300's
Over the years the surname of Barclay has had various spellings such as: DeBerckely, Berkeley, Berclay, Barcley, and Berkley.

Our direct family of the Barclay's have been traced back to Robert Barclay born abt. 1680, in Scoltand, he married Margaret Robert abt. 1700 in Scotland.

Our Great Great Grandparents James Barclay and Annabella Smith were both born in  Brechin, Angus Scotland. They were married Abt. 1893 in Brechin and had eleven children: Maryanne Thompson, Alice Ramsay, Maggie Helen, James, John, Frank, Annabella, Edith Smith, Christine, Charles, and Lillian Hooper Barclay.

James Barclay our Great Great Grandfather worked as State Labourer at Brechin, Castle. The Barclay family lived on High Street in Brechin, Angus, Scotland.

Edith Smith Barclay our Great Grandmother was born in Brechin,Angus,Scotland were she grow up and attended school and worked in a factory. With the blessing of her parents James and Annabella and one suitcase she left Scotland, immgrating to Canada July 29, 1929. Sponsored by her three sisters Maryanne, Alice, and Maggie who were already in Canada, she boarded the S.S. Minedosa and for seven days across the Atlantic ocean to Halifax, Canada. Edith travelled by steam train for seven days across Canada to Calgary. were she was met a the train station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by her three sisters.
John (Joch) Barclay brother to our Great Grandmother, came to Canada a few years later. 

Our Great Grandmother Edith met our Great Grandfather David Robb Dalgetty in Calgary, and were married May 29, 1931, in Calgary, Alberta,Canada. They had four children: David Alexander Robb, Joyce Helen, Norma Edith, and
