Naval Academy cadets in Vladevostok. I shook hands and wished them well. The kids looked a little unsure when they learned that I was a Cold War Navy vet, as did the young army officer Alexander earlier in the trip. I get the feeling that these boys are being taught that we might get into it again one day. Can't be sure, but it's a feeling... all except one of the Academy boys, who upon finding out my past raised his fist and said "Right ON!" in English.... Hah!

This arch has been rebuilt. It was originally built to honor the Czar during his visit here in the 1800's and torn down after the Revolution. The Czarist Eagle that tops it is the symbol of the New Russia and this arch being rebuilt symbolizes the new mood in Russia perfectly.
