1.0 Introducing Herblore
Herblore, the intricate art that is Potion Making. Learning
Herblore allows you to Mix Herbs, and Second Ingredients, in
water-filled vials and create Potions of all colours of the
rainbow
To begin Herblore, you must
have completed the
Druidic Ritual Quest.
2.0 Beginning Herblore
Identifying Herbs
By killing monsters, eventually you will come across an herb.
All unidentified herbs look the same. When monsters drop herbs
they are 'Unidentified', meaning you have to identify them. If
your herblore level is high enough you will be able to identify
it, at which point it can be used for making potions.
Unidentified herbs cannot be made into potions.
Making Potions
To make a potion you will need three things:
An identified herb
A vial filled with water
The 2nd ingredient for the herb
An Identified Herb
To get an herb, you will either need to purchase them from
players, or kill monsters, such as Druids, and Chaos Druids.
There are many other NPC's which can drop herbs. To identify an
herb, simply click on it.
A Vial Filled with Water
You can get a vial either at the Herblore Shop (in Taverly), or
you can buy one that has been filled already with water from the
Adventurer's Shop, in Ardougne. You can also get a vial by
emptying a potion (just drink it until the doses run out). If
your vial is not filled with water, you must fill it by using it
with a sink or a fountain. This will fill it and allow it to be
used for Herblore.
The Second Ingredient
To find the appropriate Second Ingredient, look at the tables in
section 3.0. Locations of Second Ingredients are found below.
Making the Potion
Once you have all the items for making your potion, you must put
it all together. First, use your identified herb with your
water-filled vial, then use the 'unfinished potion' with your
Second Ingredient. You get the experience when you add the 2nd
ingredient.
Greenman's Ale
You can purchase a beer called "Greenman's Ale" from the pub in
Yanille. This pub is found west of the Wizard's Guild. This
drink temporarily raises your herblaw level by 1, but decreases
your attack, defense, and strength by 4.
Beginner Herblawists, should start off with:
Mortar and Pestle
At least 50 Water-filled Vials
50 Eye's of Newt
Unicorn Horns
Limpwurt Roots
All of those items will help you get to at least 10 Herblore, in
a day or two. All potions are 3-dose, with the exception of
Weapon Poison, which has only one dose, but can poison 1 Dagger,
1 Spear, 10 Arrows, or 10 Darts.
I recommend Chaos Druids, in Taverly Dungeon, or the Chaos Druid
Tower(if your thieving is high enough), or Edgeville Members
Wilderness Dungeon (lvl 1-5 wild).
Druids drop herbs regularly, but not as often as Chaos Druids.
Many other NPC's also drop Herbs.
3.0 Potions, Herbs, and
Second Ingredients
Second Ingredient Locations:
- Eye of Newt - Can be bought from Taverly Herblore Shop,
Betty's Magic Emporium (Port Sarim)
- Unicorn Horns - Scattered Throughout RuneScape. For fast
collecting, I suggest Black Unicorns in level 30-ish
Wilderness, North east of Edgeville
- Limpwurt Root - Hobgoblins & Giants. I recommend the
Hobgoblin Mine in the Wilderness, or Hobgoblin Peninsula.
- Red Spider Eggs - 1 Spawn at Varrock Sewers (Up near the
Moss Giants), 1 spawn at Karamja Volcano (Near the Red
Spiders), 6 spawn at Edgeville Members Dungeon (North of the
Gate entrance to wilderness) Note: Deadly Red Spider's do not
drop Red Spider Eggs
- Snape Grass - Hobgoblin Peninsula respawn (3), Chaos
Druids drop them (uncommon)
- White Berries - Red Dragons in the Wilderness (3 or 4
Respawns)
- Wine of Zamorak - Only at Chaos Temple, North of Goblin
Village (Telegrab or kill all Monks of Zamorak to pick it up)
- JangerBerries - Feldip Hills, a small Isle down there
