Introducing Thieving
Welcome the the noble (well... not so noble) art of thieivng. Ben_Goten78 and myself are going to explain, and give you a thorough understanding of the skill, and hopefully assist you in levelling successfully. Thieving is useful, because there are many doors in RuneScape which require a certain Thieving level to enter.
There are many ways to level thieivng, including:

• Pickpocketing - This is the act of walking up to certain NPCs and selecting to "Pickpocket" them. If successful, you will gain some item and some experience. If not, you will be attacked, and stunned by the NPC.
• Stealing from Stalls - There are chests scattered throughout the RuneScape world. If you can disarm the trap on them, you will gain experience and an item. Different chests require different levels.
• Disarming traps on Chests - There are many stalls in Ardougne, which could be called the thieving capital of RuneScape. To thieve from a stall, walk up to one of the theivable stalls in the Ardougne town center and select to thieve the item, if it is there. You must avoid certain NPCs watching for potential thieves and also the keepers of the stalls who don't wish that their goods be stolen.
• Picklocking Doors - Certain doors in RuneScape require you to pick the lock. If you are not the required level for a door, you cannot pick the lock. Some doors require lockpicks.

Beginning your Career as a thief
When you pickpocket, you will either get attacked, and stunned, for a certain period of time, or you will sucessfully pickpocket the NPC.
Knowing this, when you first get members, you may want to try Thieving, follow these Steps and you'll do great. This is a basic Guidline, you don't have to follow it exactly, but if you do most of these steps it won't take long to level.
Pickpocket Men until lvl 5 (8xp x 50 successful attempts = 400xp)
Steal from cake stall (16xp) until lvl 20 (254 cakes)
Steal from Silk Stall (24xp) until lvl 27
Pickpocket Warriors (lvl 25 thieivng required) until level 35, or 40
Steal from Nature chest in Ardongue (25xp) for a few levels
Pickpocket guards (46.5xp) (lvl 40 thieving required)
Pickpocket Knights (lvl 55 thieivng required)

Pickpocketing
NPC's are getting more intelligent, if you stand in front of one and try to pickpocket it, you will have a very low chance of sucessfully pickpocketing it.
When you Pickpocket an NPC, it will stun you for a certain period of time. These Times are:
