SPECIAL CHILD
As my children were born, I wanted them to be perfect. When they were babies, I wanted them to smile and be content playing with their toys. I wanted them to be happy and to laugh continually instead of crying and being demanding I wanted them to see the beauty of life.
As they grew older, I wanted them to be giving instead of selfish; I wanted them to skip the terrible twos. I wanted them to stay innocent forever.
As they became teenagers, . I wanted them to be obedient and not rebellious, . mannerly and not mouthy. . I wanted them to be full of love, . gentle and kindhearted. .
“Oh, God, give me a child like this” was often my prayer. . One day he did. Some call her. HANDICAPPED……BUT I CALL HER PERFECT.

Hello there!
I got your link from Marie.. who runs a group I am in called Friends Helping Friends, for people with disabilities or their care givers. I am disabled, have been for nearly 6 years, but was a care giver for over 30 years, in the occupation of love, a Certified Nursing Assistant, caring for the elderly,! who come with many disabilities. I also have 5 children, 2 of whom are not exactly physically handicapped, but twin boys, one who has ADHD and ODD, and the other ADD.! We have had a very hard time with my son with the ADHD/ODD, and I just wanted to share a little, and let you know what a BEAUTIFUL, touching page this is. ! God Bless you for sharing,! Kathy
Sharon,
You sent me to your website after I requested it through the AFPS Group site. I saw this site also. You added my oldest son to the Military site. My youngest son is handicapped and I thought it would be nice to add him to this site.
Mike is Developmentally Disabled. He is now 23 years old. He is doing great and is currently the President of the local chapter of People First. People First is a self-advocacy group for the disabled. He is also very active in Special Olympics.
Thank you for all you do to share all of this with everyone.
God Bless You.

My name is Kimberly Carpenter and I am the mother of 2 wonderful children.
Our 5 1/2 year-old-son, AJ has an uncontrolled mixed seizure disorder, severe mental retardation, hypotonia and sensory integration dysfunction.
Although AJ is 5 1/2 years old, developmentally he ranges between 6-18 months. He has no speech and when trying to teach him sign language as a means to communicate, the next seizure wipes everything from his memory.
With the loving support of his family, especially his 15 month-old sister, Janet whom he just adores, he's progressing at a very slow pace, but he IS progressing
I am the proud parent of a 16year old daughter named Alyssa. She was a preemie and due to that is now visually impaired. Even though she only has sight in one eye has glaucoma and ADHD but she doesn’t let it slow her down, although it does get he down but she holds her head up and goes on. She is currently a junior in high school and attends a magnet school for the performing arts where she is vocal major; she has a wonderful voice and pure god given talent. I’m very proud of the young lady she is becoming. At times it is a struggle for her but we constantly tell her she can do anything she puts her mind to. I just wanted to tell you about my SPECIAL CHILD and thanks for having this area and also your military area. Marcie Fuller
