Remembering 9/11/01 By Loraine C. Mirchich TV news coverage repeatedly showed people escaping through billows of gray dust and ashes. Airborne evidence of devastation covered faces, making racial differences imperceptible. On that day, we adopted the same color. The Human race had a universal color of suffering, the color gray. As Americans, we rallied. We supported with prayers, blood donations, and contributions of clothing, food, and money. The unity of red, yellow, brown, black and white skins is a mighty force. Rescuers were not partial to Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus or people of different faiths. Each life was valued. We worked side by side. Some of the valiant sacrificed their own lifes to save others. Each successful rescue attempt was celebrated, each tragic loss of life was mourned. We were all victims of this cowardly attack despite subtle differences of race, ethnic background, or religious belief. We comforted those who lost more. We gave of ourselves in a compassionate effort to ease pain. What finer qualities could you hope for in a neighbor, a friend, or a family member? I'm proud to be on this team. We not only share these qualities, we show them to the world. That's the true American Spirit, that's our American Way. |

Oops, someone dropped the ball. These are mistakes I found in Newspaper advertising. In a paid ad for a cosmetic store ... DOESyour eyes need a little sparkle? These Headlines were in a paper on a winter day ... Storm Ravage County. It sounded like Tonto in a Lone Ranger rerun. There was an ad for a musical presentation featuring the song "You'll never walk alone." They printed "You'll never walk AGAIN." OUCH! My favorite: Printed in an ad for a national Pizza chain... "Our delicious barbeque chicken, bacon specialty pizza is topped with grilled all-white CHILDREN, hickory smoked bacon, sliced onion and authentic barbecue sauce." OUCH! Is this a racist ad, or what? |
