My Cooke Family ancestors hail from Arksey, Yorkshire, England.

In about 1452, Edward Cooke was born and he was the Mayor of Doncaster 1504,
1505 (the year when shillings were first minted in England), 1506, 1507, 1508. He
married around 1486 and had two sons, Lawrence, Prior of Doncaster 1536-38 who
was executed at Tyburn in 1540 for denying the King's supremacy. The second son was
William who married and had a son Bryan. (born about 1540). He in turn married and
had a son Bryan (1570-1653) of Sandall, nr. Doncaster who was Mayor of Doncaster
in 1630 and a noted Loyalist. He married Sarah Ryley and had six children.
Their second son George (ca 1623 – 1683) who, in consideration of his own and his
father's loyalty and sufferings during the Civil War, was created a Baronet on 10 May
1661, with remainder, in default of male issue, to his next brother. As he died unmarried,
he was succeeded by his brother, Sir Henry Cooke, 2
nd Bt. (1633-1689). Sir Henry
married Diana Butler (1635-1668), only daughter of Anthony Butler of Coats (Coates)
and sister and co-heir of Charles Butler of Coates, Lincs., England.
Their eldest son was Sir George Cooke, 3rd Bt. and Member of Parliament for
Aldborough 1698. He married in 1683, Catherine, daughter of Sir Godfrey Copley
Bart. of Sprotborough, co York. They had nine children, of which the youngest was
Elizabeth Cooke (1702-1772).
Elizabeth married as his second wife, Richard Acklom (1690-1754) of Wiseton Hall,
Co Nottingham, England.
