The name Massey may also be spelt Massy.

General Hugh Massey had a military command to repress the Irish rebellion of 1641.
He married in about 1655, Margaret Percy and had a son Hugh (born ca 1658) of
Duntrileague, Co Limerick, Ireland. From his marriage to Amy Benson in about 1684,
he had four sons and two daughters of which:
One son, William Massey (ca 1695-1768), of Clougharnold, Co Limerick, bought
Stoneville, Rathkeale, Co Limerick from Hon Henry Southwell, MP in 1751 where he
then lived. He married Anne (ca 1696-1774), daughter of John Bentley of
Hurdlestown, Co Clare.
The youngest son Charles was Dean of Limerick. His son Hugh Massy (born 1685)
was the father of Hugh Massy 1
st Baron.

Of William and Anne's eight children, Elizabeth Massey (born about 1720) married
Charles Minchin
of Woodville and Ballygibbon, Co Tipperary, and son of Edward
Minchin.
