The name Orford used to be quite extensive around the area of Kilcullen, Athy and
Kildare in the county of Kildare, Ireland. Today, there are still a few of that name, but
I believe only those of the Roman Catholic faith.

There were two branches of the family name, split by religion but probably related:
Those who were Catholic and those who were Protestant. The Catholic line of the
family was far more numerous than the Protestant side.
On the Protestant side, there was Mary Orford (born about 1749 and died about
1809, who married (possibly in Kirkcudbright, Scotland) as his first wife, Thomas
Kelly, Sovereign of Kildare. The had eight children.
Patrick Orford (born about 1759), of Rathbride Manor, The Curragh, Co Kildare was
the father of Catherine (born about 1786) who married her first cousin Capt. William
Kelly of Maddenstown House.
From the above information, it may be calculated (but not proven) that the first mention
lady, Mary Orford, who married Thomas Kelly
, was a sister of Patrick.
There was also a William Orford who married in 1818, his first cousin Eliza Kelly,
daughter of the already mentioned Capt. William Kelly
. Another, or possibly the same
William Orford (and therefore as his first wife) married in 1792 Margaret Alexander.
