At our October meeting, Richard Hobby presented a video about the GM built Cl66 locomotives entitiled " The Full Story of the Construction, Delivery and INtroduction of the Class 66 Locos." The video was shown in part ( due to its length and time constraints). Richard has indicated we may be able to view the remainder of the video at our next meeting. Footage was taken at the General Motors Diesel Division in 1998 showing the preparation and production of the early cl66s on to the testing that takes place on the CPR line which runs adjacent to the plant in London.

Grant Miles brought along a display of his millitary rolling stock. As a payload, Grant has acquired a number of military vehicles that are finely detailed and available at a reasonable price.
While on the subject of the military and WWII, the November issue of The Railway Magazine, carried an article on Faslane, a port that was  developed in 1942 on the west coast of Scotland, with a branch diverging from the West Highland Line. The port was operated on a continental basis to enable troops to become familliar with a foreign railway operation. One of the photographs accompaniying the article provides further proof for the "prototype for everything. The shot shows a WD 2-8-0 locomotive with a Queen mary type , Southern railway breakvan, clearly marked "S R". The Bachman version of the brake van was on display at our meeting.
Faslane port was closed on March 31st, 1946 at which time it became a scrap yard for dismantling of  warships. This work remained until 1982 when the site was redeveloped ny the Royal Navy as a submarine base. The rail acess to Faslane
exchange sidings remained until 1983.

Our November  meeting will be held on the 18th at the usual Elliott St.  location, 1300 - 1630. Please bring any of your own video material, slides  or recent modelling projects for discussion.
The Devon Belle and its ( Tenuous) Connection with Strathroy Ontario.

Last month a picture of LNER Pacific "Flying Scotsman" at Strathroy was included. This month the two pictures below are featured, from the same train that accompanied Flying Scotsman. The top picture shows two Gresley luggage vans. Infront of the luggage vans, the end of a BR Mk 1 coach is visible and at the rear is a Pullman coach. Two pullman coaches, "Lydia" and "Isle Of Thanet" are currently enroute back to their home in the UK. See accompanying
newspaper article.
The bottom picture shows most of the second Pullman car and the observation car that was built for the Devon Belle Pullman service between Waterloo and the Southwest of England via the Southern Railway route.
One of the observation cars  remains in preservation today.
