ILDICO                             Damned          197        Last bride of Attila.  Attila died on their wedding night before

Imhept                               Persian             50        Egyptian scholar employed by Shapur II to survey Persia for
                                                                              irrigation purposes.  Befriended Casca and nursed him back to
                                                                              health after he was burned at the stake.  Was in fact the Elder
                                                                              of the Brotherhood of the Lamb.
Indemeer                           Persian             69        Commander of the Persian heavy cavalry.  First served under
                                                                              Casca in battle against the Huns, and later campaigned to save
                                                                               Kushan.
Ireina                                 Sentinel           27         Alpine village girl who fell in love with Casca whilst he slept in
                                                                               the cave of ice.  After she revived him she became his woman
                                                                               and she bore a son, conceived after being raped by Herac, whom
                                                                               Casca adopted.  Ireina was captured and later killed by the
                                                                               Brotherhood of the Lamb.

                                                                              fought against him many times.  Reputedly Jemuga was finally
                                                                              beheaded by Temujin when he became Genghis Khan.

                                                                               squad containing Casca.  Jesus' blood purified Casca and so
                                                                               began the curse of immortality.

Jirchi                                 Mongol          158          Son of Ong Khan, brother of Barlas.  Suffered same fate as he.
JOCHI                               Mongol           91           Portrayed in this book as Temujin's brother who helped over-
                                                                               throw Jemuga's rule, he was in fact Temujin's (Genghis Khan)
                                                                               eldest son, haunted by accusations of illegitimacy.  Commanded
                                                                               many of his father's armies but died a few months before his   
                                                                               father in 1227.

                                                                                 Casca to fight the Huns but died in the battle.

                                                                                 became one of the crew.
Ju Liqun                            Cursed             45            Drunken Chinese man at whose house Casca hid during his

Ju Songzhen                       Cursed              2            Wife of Ju Liqun, readily slept with Casca in order to bring
                                                                                  good luck to her household, a task she found pleasurable.
JUSTINIAN                       Avenger           12             First Byzantine emperor of that name, gave Casca a captaincy
                                                                                  in the imperial forces.  Under his reign the Byzantine empire
                                                                                  reached its widest extent.
