JENASCIA COMES UP SHORT
For the AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL finalists, it was a week of learning about themselves and finding their styles, as well as how to radiate confidence no matter what they may be wearing. After some flattering and alternately harsh critiques from the judges, it was Jenascia , the 21-year-old waitress from Burien, Washington, who was let go because she was not able to compensate for her height with a little "something extra."

COMING BACK HOME
After coming back from the their time with the judges, the girls are starting to feel the pressure of the competition. Xiomara , the 25-year-old bartender from Morganville, New Jersey, realizes that she must step up her game after the judges told her the week prior was her worst yet. Catie , the 18-year-old wire stripper from Willmar, Minnesota, has never been under so much pressure. Jenascia is still trying to compensate for the fact that she is 5'7". Mercedes , the 22-year-old waitress from Valencia, California, reveals to us that she has lupus, a chronic illness that attacks her immune system. She takes pills everyday that can cause her hair to fall out. She lets us know that she hasn't told the other girls because she doesn't want them to feel sorry for her.

The next day, the girls go boxing with Martin Snow, their personal trainer. He quickly tells them that they will compete in a punching bag match, saying it's "not those waitress of the year competitions, it's the Top Model competition." The girls have to see how long they can continuously hit a punching bag. Catie drops out first and the other girls start following suit until only April , the 23-year-old corporate business account manager from Miami Beach, Florida, and Camille , the 25-year-old student from Mamaroneck, New York remain. All the girls standing on the sidelines start chanting for April. "Everybody was like, 'Go April, go April.' But, no one was going 'Go Camille,'" Camille observes.

Martin takes the two finalists over and has them do a push up contest until one of them falls down. After holding it for as long as she could, Camille falls and April is declared the victor. When it is over, Camille says, "I realized that not a lot of people are down with me, but I am doing this for me and not anyone else."

BEING CRITIQUED
The girls get Tyra Mail informing them that since clothes articulate to the world a personal style, they should dress to express themselves. After they get ready, they are taken to a showroom where they meet Tyra and Simon Doonan, creative director of Barney's New York, and the person who made window dressing an art form. "In New York, you never know who you are going to run into, so you have to think about how you dress every single day," Simon tells them. After Tyra shows the girls some pictures of some of her personal "worst dressed" moments, she tells everyone that she and Simon are going to critique each of their outfits.

April says that she feels the most comfortable in her own skin and likes to show a lot of flesh. Simon says that though she likes to show a lot of skin, that isn't always a fashion point of view and she should be conscious of it. Mercedes tells us that she grew up in a Latin community and thus she dresses to represent that style by adding a flower into her hair. Simon says he buys it. Shandi, the 21-year-old Walgreen's clerk from Kansas City, Missouri who loves old movies, says if she finds anything vintage, she likes to wear it. Simon believes, "Here is a girl whose got her own thing going on." Tyra thinks she needs to show "a little somethin' somewhere. Like [in] a wife beater."

Camille says that her personal style is usually to wear the colors of Jamaica. Tyra thinks she is concentrating on colors too much and should consider other things that represent her culture. Catie, who is wearing a yellow, low-cut shirt, a denim mini skirt and black heels with long black leg warmers, tells Simon and Tyra that her look matches her new haircut. Simon lets her know that her style is "a little too much hooker." He advises her to go down to where the hookers hang out and see what they are wearing so she can avoid it.

After all the girls have been critiqued, Simon tells them that they must learn to be self-critical and he feels that some girls, especially Catie, haven't learned how to do that. Catie fights back a little and the tears start to flow. The other girls are amazed at Catie's attitude. Mercedes says you have to treat Catie "like a baby."

BECOMING YOURSELF
The girls get Tyra Mail, which tells them to get ready for a wacky and wild time in New York! The next day they are taken to meet Betsey Johnson, a famous and funky fashion designer. "Personal style is trying to figure out who you are and being that," Betsey advises them. She shows them a video of one of her shows and showcases a "very specific type of girl." She wants them to dance it up on the runway and present something more than a fabulous walk. The girls are taken back to the apartment where they will be put to the test, showing Betsey their own style.

The girls are told that they have 10 minutes to rummage around and get dressed. The only catch is: they cannot wear anything of their own! Betsey will pick one winner who will get a dinner out on the town with a fabulous mystery guest. "I was looking for their body language and their heart and soul and spirit. It has nothing to do with make up, hair, clothes or shoes. It has to do with the person," Betsey says. This is what she will be judging the contest on.

The girls are set free and the clock starts ticking. Some girls know exactly what they want from each other's wardrobes, while others start frantically running around. Time runs out, and one by one they must walk the runway for Betsey. All of the girls add a little something "funky" to their normal walk, doing little extra things to sexify and be wackier. Mercedes, who still doesn't feel well because of her illness, is told by Betsey the she was "Ms. Smiley, friendly, personality on the runway and that will be (her) strength." Jenascia, decked out in a red blouse and a blue trucker hat, is told that she is almost there but needs about six months of modeling school before she will be ready.

Catie, still reeling from being told her style is like that of a hooker, is told that she still hasn't found Catie. Shandi is told not to try to be the sexpot. Shandi's strength is that she is not that. With that Betsey picks Shandi as the winner. "I see a potential in Shandi that just needs a little tweaking because even through the heels and through the dress, you couldn't cover up your personal style," Betsey imparts to her. Shandi gets to take two people to dinner with her and the mystery guest. She picks Xiomara and Yoanna, the 23-year-old babysitter from Jacksonville, Florida.

COMING BACK FOR DINNER
The mystery guest is finally revealed: it's last year's winner of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, Adrianne Curry. Shandi, Xiomara and Yoanna are taken to the VIP room at a fancy restaurant. Adrianne asks them whom they think should be eliminated next, and the girls unanimously choose Camille. Xiomara starts to do impressions of the other girls and complains a bit about Catie. Adrianne tells them that this is an opportunity of a lifetime, and not to screw it up.

BECOMING SOMEONE ELSE

The next day they are taken to see Jay Manuel, art director for their next photo shoot. "As a Top Model, you guys need to learn to take on the persona of someone else," he tells them. For this shoot, the girls are going to turn into some of the world's most famous celebrities.

Catie will be Marilyn Monroe, Mercedes will be Billie Holiday and April will become Catherine Zeta-Jones. Shandi will be transformed into Nicole Kidman, while Camille will be Diana Ross and Sara will be Angelina Jolie. Jenascia will morph into Salma Hayek, and Yoanna will go back in time and become Audrey Hepburn. Who else but Xiomara could become fashion icon Grace Jones? Upon hearing this, though, Xiomara is not too excited because she doesn't feel she looks anything like her. In order to make this transformation, Xiomara must be airbrushed and her skin tone darkened.

The photographer, Andrew Eccles, feels that Jenascia was a little hard to work with because she lacks the confidence that Salma Hayek has. He senses she hasn't been in front of the camera very often. Camille, as Diana Ross, is working the camera with the wind blowing in her hair. April "seems to be that unique find that shows turn up now and again," Andrew says. When Catie gets in front of the camera as Marilyn Monroe, Tyra tells her she needs to stick her booty out more.

It is time for Xiomara to show off as Grace Jones. She looks "crazy," as Shandi describes her. After the photo shoot, Xiomara feels that she might have been able to pull it off because she feels that she looks like Grace Jones. Mercedes "seemed nervous and I detected that she was even shaking just a little bit," the photographer says.

BEING JUDGED
The girls all come to the judging room dressed as what Tyra calls "sexified Catholic school." All the girls are dressed in identical black slip dresses. The judges this week are Janice Dickinson , Eric Nicholson , Nigel Barker and guest judge Betsey Johnson. Each girl is given the same set of accessories and they need to show their own personal style as if they were going out for a night on the town.

Yoanna keeps it simple with just pearls and her black dress. The judges think it works for her. April is looking a little K-Mart to Janice. Mercedes chose the pearls and the purse for a classic look with a scarf for fun. Janice thinks she looks too "bad prom." Camille picks a silver chain because it accents her neck and a ring because it matches the circles on her purse. Eric says it would show more confidence if she had said she picked things because she liked them rather than doing "brain surgery." Camille fights back that she wants "to be right." Jenascia comes forward with a hat because she likes hats, and a belt because "I felt like I needed something to go with the hat." Nigel tells her she is confused and needs to have some confidence. Xiomara wanted to be 70s with a headscarf but the judges think she looks more like Guns N' Roses than Mary Tyler Moore.

It is time for the pictures from the photo shoot to be judged. "Your eyes look fantastic," Nigel tells Yoanna when he sees her picture. Mercedes is told that in her picture, Tyra was impressed because she gave little changes with every picture and it almost comes naturally to her. Shandi nailed her portrayal of Nicole Kidman, but looks a little stiff for the photographer, Nigel Barker. When Janice sees Jenascia's picture, she says, "Finally I see a little model coming forward." Catie as Marilyn Monroe reminds Janice of a beautiful guy. Eric thinks she looks like a drag queen, and Tyra comes to her defense saying she knows a lot of drag queens they wished they looked like her photo. Xiomara's Grace Jones picture blows the judges away. "Grace would be proud," Nigel congratulates her.

COMING TO A DECISION
The judges begin to deliberate. Nigel thinks that Yoanna has one of the most beautiful faces in the competition, but Janice thinks she looks possessed. Tyra feels that April has a one-note face. Camille nailed Diana Ross, but Janice hated her attitude. When it comes to Jenascia, Tyra feels when a model lacks something compared to the other girls (referring to Jenascia's height), she needs to have something extra special. For Tyra, Jenascia doesn't have it. Betsey likes Shandi's "black sheep" quality. Catie is still dead in front of the camera, Eric notices. Mercedes' picture has an "incredible sadness in her eyes." Tyra was a little insulted by Xiomara's complaining on set about becoming Grace Jones.

COMING UP SHORT
The girls are brought back in to find out who has been cut. Tyra only has eight pictures for the nine girls. All the girls are given their pictures except for Catie and Jenascia.

Jenascia is told that her Salma Hayek impersonation was beautiful, but she has something a little less than the others and she needs to overcompensate. Tyra feels that she lacks that ability. Catie is told that the judges question whether or not she is strong enough to handle a competition with its constant critiquing and constant rejection. Tyra pulls out the photo and hands Catie her picture. Catie is still in the running to become AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, and Jenascia is sent packing.
