- Introduction - In the early years of the 22nd century, before the Federation was founded,  many privately

funded space vehicles left Earth in search of new places to colonize. Many people on Earth felt that World War III may not be the last, so some journeyed out into the galaxy in search of new places to start over. In 2119, the Warp 5 complex was built so that faster warp engines cold be designed and used to explore space in hopes that this would lead to a permanent peaceful solution to mankind's problems. In 2151, Starfleet comissioned the Starship Enterprise NX-01, the first official starship of a unified Earth. When the United Federation of Planets was established in 2161, many classes of starships were built so that humankind could finally put there past behind them so they were finally free to seek out new life, and new civilizations. Boldly going where no man had gone before.

2100's

DY Series Cargo Vessels - Used well into the 23rd century, the DY class of ship become larger to accomodate more cargo. Many of these ships became automated by the 23rd century, but by the beginning of the 22nd century, these vessels were manned by people. Declaration Class Starliner - This large starliner could hold up to 850 passengers. Maximum warp speed was no greater than warp 3. Messier Class Cruiser - When the year 2100 had approached, the echoes of World War III still haunted Earth and a small defensive cruiser armed well for the time. NX Class - Starfleet vessel. Launched in 2151, these ships involved the first terran-created warp 5 engine created by Henry Archer. Earth finally got its first taste of what was oput in space. Many dangerous, along with many new great discoveries, encouraged Starfleet to grow and increase ship construction and finally make a name for themselves in space. Survey Class Vessel - Small fusion powered vessel used by Earth scientists and Starfleet in the 22nd century. Usually no more than a crew of 10. (ENT - Regeneration)

Mercury Class Scout - Early Fusion powered scout ship. During Romulan Wars, Starfleet adapted some of these vessels for use during the war. (Spaceflight Chronology)

Borchardt Patrol Ship - When Starfleet was first learning about how the galaxy works, they realized that the many freighters and transports run by humans and Vulcans needed protection from the many pirates of the 22nd century. These small patrol vessels had a maximum warp velocity of warp 4.5, most were assigned to protect friendly ships along common trade routes. (TOS - Goldkey Comics)

Marshall Class Destroyers - Originally used as large transports, these ships grew to be one of the most prominant ships during the ROmulan Wars. Although they could go no faster than warp 3, these ships had great maneuverability for its time. All surviving ships from this class were upgraded to Federation Starship standards. Daedalus Class - Once the United Federation of Planets was established in 2161, Starfleet made a fleet of Daedalus class starships to explore the galaxy on a massive scale. Before the Daedalus class starships, there were only a few ships from Earth had explored the galaxy. Twenty ships were costructed. (Registries NCC-170 - NCC-189). Bonaventure Class Cruiser - Small Federation Courier. Lost while on her third mission in the Delta Triangel. Found in 2269 by U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. (TAS - The Time Trap)

Caracel Class - The Federation designed its first official cruiser with the Caracel class starship. There were fifteen ships constructed starting in 2196. Horizon Class - The next step in Federation starship design, the Horizon class was more advenced than its predessesor, the Daedalus class. 13 vessels were  constructed starting in 2196 (Registries NCC-1000 - NCC-1003, NCC-1005 - NCC-1007, NCC-1011 - NCC-1014, NCC-1016 - NCC-1017) Then, in 2202, 7 more ships were constructed as a sub-calss to the Horizon, the Archon class. Tritium Class - The first 3-nacelled starship developed by Starfleet. For years, Starfleet attempted to fix the numerous problems in getting this class starship up to specs, but alas, the project was eventually abandoned and only the prototype Tritium ship was built. (Spaceflight Chronology)
