Welcome to the Tri-State's elite baseball/softball training facility! We have managed to produce the indoor facility that the Tri-State area of Hungtington, WV has always needed. Up to this point nobody has had the resources to produce the type of facility that this area needs to help it's local stars move on to the next level. The Tri-State Baseball/Softball Academy is a 10,000 sq.ft. facility. Our batting cages are located in it's own separate area of the building. Here you will find three cages with 2,500 sq ft of artificial turf. Also at The Academy, you will find the Tri-State's first indoor set of clay and dirt mounds. We have provided two clay mounds incased with a turf platform which provide our pitchers experience of the most natural feel. This facility always provides two options for defensive work outs. If you choose to take your infield on our artificial turf surface, we can push back our batting cages for the use of the 2,500 sq ft turf area. We also provide the option to use our 4,000 sq. ft. sport court area shown above to conduct defensive work outs and incorporate different coverage plays as well..
At The Academy our motto is "We Know What It Takes!" We live by this, giving our customers the guarantee that we know what it is going to take for our athletes to move on to the next level. Our knowledge is the most vast the area has seen ranging from our well renown high school coaches, collegiate standouts, and our professional athletes. What separates us from the rest is the fact that we teach our students; we don't "tell". The main focus of our lessons revolve around muscle memory; the continuous movement and repetition of a muscle to learn a new movement while developing a reaction. Our instructors teach the students in a controlled step by step environment, seeing that the student understands the movement, why that specific movement is beneficial, and why/how this movement should be incorporated. Following these principles is a formula for success, with our student now having a sense of self-gratification they will be able to execute.
The Tri-State Baseball/Softball Academy was founded by Tyler Christian and Tom Smith. Tyler was a local standout from Cabell Midland High School. Tyler led his team to the school's first state championship earning All-State Honors, All-Conference Honors, All-Kentucky, Ohio, and WV honors. Making only two errors in his entire high school career, he became the first position player in Cabell Midland history to be named to the All-State team. Posting record numbers from the plate and the field, Christian then received a college scholarship to play at Marshall University. After two years, Christian battled shoulder injuries and now is using his skills to coach at Cabell Midland High while founding the Academy to help kids become better athletes.
Tom Smith is the area's most productive pitching coach having three drated players, three division one recruits, and four other collegiate advancements in his eight years at Cabell Midland High. Prior to his stint at Midland, Smith helped coach the elite summer program, the Huntington Patriots! Year after year, Smith and head coach Dick Brammer sent countless numbers of players on to the next level each season.
